Pre- and Post-Treatment Instructions

Neurotoxin and Dermal Filler Injections

Please schedule your appointment 2 to 3 weeks before any special event to allow time for healing and best cosmetic results. Neurotoxin results may begin to appear within 2 to 5 days and are typically fully visible within 10 to 14 days, while mild swelling or bruising, especially after dermal filler treatment, may take up to 14 days to improve.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs, blood thinners, fish oil, vitamin E, and other supplements that may increase bruising for about 5 to 7 days before treatment unless otherwise directed by your prescribing provider.

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment to help reduce bruising.

  • Stop retinol, Retin-A, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, and similar active skincare products 2 to 3 days before treatment, and resume them 2 days after treatment.

  • If you bruise easily, Arnica or bromelain may be used if recommended by your provider.

  • Notify your provider before treatment if you have a history of cold sores, especially before lip filler treatment, as preventive antiviral medication may be recommended.

  • Reschedule your appointment if you develop a rash, sore, active blemish, illness, cold sore outbreak, or skin irritation near the treatment area before your visit.

  • Do not receive treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological or autoimmune conditions unless cleared by your medical provider.

After Neurotoxin Treatment

  • Remain upright for 2 to 4 hours after treatment.

  • Avoid rubbing, pressing, or massaging the treated area for the rest of the day.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, excessive straining, saunas, tanning beds, hot tubs, and other heat exposure for 24 hours.

  • Wait 7 days before facials, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion unless otherwise instructed by your provider.

After Dermal Filler Treatment

  • Do not massage, press on, or excessively manipulate the treated area unless instructed by your provider.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours and excessive heat or sun exposure for 48 to 72 hours.

  • To minimize swelling, avoid alcohol and excess sodium, apply a cold compress for 10 to 20 minutes at a time, and sleep with your head elevated if needed.

  • If your lips were treated, avoid very hot or very cold foods and beverages, smoking, straws, and excessive lip movement for the first 24 hours.

  • Avoid makeup and active skincare on newly treated areas until the next day unless your provider instructs otherwise.
